Aside from my families general health, continued safety and a steady paycheck... I, for one, am thankful to work in an industry with so many philanthropic, service-minded companies. The outpouring of generosity over the past five years has certainly made a positive difference in the organizations and individuals who have benefited from it.

Having been one of the companies that have donated for each of those years, I eagerly look forward to the thank you letters from the organizations receiving the donations. The excitement in the words contained in their letter, or even better, in their voices if they call, generates a lump in my throat.

I applaud all the companies who participated this year and each of the previous. In working with many DSA-member companies in different capacities, I can't help think about the heart of each company - it's people. It is the culture of the companies that drive the often year-round spirit of charity and giving.

While independent contractors selling products provided by a wholesaler, individuals are drawn to the companies for opportunity. But they remain with a company for something greater. When you see the greatness in an achievement such as $40 million donated to one of many causes - I think you recognize the greatness of it all.
